An instructional module designed to help prepare college-level teaching assistants (TAs) for their duties in second language instruction is presented. The module focuses on how learning strategies can help students become better language learners, and on methods for sharing the secrets of good language learning with students.
The Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL), EFL/ESL 7.0 version, (Oxford, 1990) was used to investigate the frequency of the participants’ use of language learning strategies. The Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) is “perhaps the most comprehensive classification of learning strategies to date” (Ellis, 1994, p. 539).
